Winter in Canada is no joke, our climate gets dry, cold and brisk!
My skincare routine is filled with oils, moisturizing creams and face masks, but I realized early into the winter this year, that I should start prioritizing my makeup in the same light – to hydrate!
So out with the powders and in with the iridescence and creams!
First step?
Moisturize
Moisturizers come first in any good makeup routine.
If our skin was a canvas, we’d want it to be a clean and smooth canvas. (*No dry flakes up in here!*)
So as my first step in my makeup routine, I hydrate with the Ultra Repair Cream.
I first noticed intense and severe dryness (especially around my mouth) last year when I was pregnant with Amalia.
The First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream is a heavy, fast absorbing and insanely moisturizing cream. It provides incredible hydration without the thick shine that often comes with heavy creams, which is why I love it (winter or summer).
It is also very calming to any flare ups or redness. This was an amazing aid at nourishing my dry skin and after a week of liberally applying, morning, night & throughout the day my skin bounced back to normal.
I seriously rate this a 10/10.
Although it is very hydrating, I still like to layer an oil on top, even when applying makeup.
Oil
Superberry Hydrate+Glow Dream Oil is a fast absorbing, antioxidant rich light weight oil.
For this reason, I love layering under my makeup.
I appreciate how this is a light weight oil as it is effortless to apply. Gliding onto your skin- perfect for when you do a facial massage on yourself!
Highlighter
Next on my list – highlight!
Usually my highlighter goes on top of the finished product, but I now actually layer it underneath of everything else!
I find doing this creates a natural dewy glow.
The Icon London Illuminator Liquid Highlighter is oil free, vegan and has a high shine finish, allowing you to actually add it into your foundation, primer or simply use it with your moisturizer for a natural highlighted glow.
When adding this underneath my foundation, I apply it on my cheekbones and then massage it into my cheeks and work it up to my eyebrow bone, accentuating the high points of my face. (Not working it all over the face or this may make you look shiny versus dewy.)
I switched to a liquid illuminator vs my traditional powder highlighter as I love the versatility of this. Allowing me to use it by itself (in combination with my moisturizer) underneath my makeup or on top for a bold glow.
The Iconic Illuminator is really nice and lightweight but incredibly pigmented. The smallest drops go a long way, producing a beautiful glow. I chose to go with the colour “original” as I didn’t want much of a colour tint to it- just the iridescence of it.
Filled with powerful antioxidants and active ingredients from Green Tea Extract to Vitamin E this is more than a highlighter. It will soothe and condition your skin. Leaving your skin glowing and supple.
Foundation
Next on the lineup is the foundation.
So many foundations are quite heavy in both coverage and feeling, so I went with the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint. The coverage is light, but does a great job at covering up mild redness.
It is a mineral SPF 40, protecting from UVA, UVB, UVC and blue light!
The active ingredients help minimize the appearance of pores, soften lines and promote an even skin tone.
The two hyaluronic acids included are macro and micro which penetrate at different levels, plumping and visibly smoothing fine lines that lay on the surface.
After all that, I think it’s safe to say this is magic in a bottle.
Bronzer
Que the choir singing.
This is my favourite cream bronzer!
It gives the most beautiful summer glow, blends incredibly well, and a little goes a long way – so go in easy!
The brush does not come with the bronzer, I got it because I don’t have one like it! But any blender brush would work perfectly with this cream bronzer!
Lippies
Last but not least, lips! If you’re going for a dewy no make up – make up look, just brush out your brows (don’t heavily stencil in) and focus on your lips!
The Maracuja Glossy Lip Oil softens lips and leaves them looking naturally glossy and hydrated. The tint is ever so slight so it really does keep your lips looking natural.
The vegan ingredients focus on conditioning your lips, so while you’re sporting that pout you can rest easy knowing your lips are getting a nice little hydrating treatment themselves!
If you’re looking for something juicy the Buxom Full – On Plumping Lip Polish Gloss will still keep your lips looking dewy- but it will be more noticeable. It has a metallic finish, free of Sulfates SLS, SLES, phthalates & parabens and instead focuses on plumping up your pout!
I love throwing this on any chance I get.
Have you tried any of these products? Let me know what you think!
